Sidley Austin is expanding its commercial litigation and disputes business by hiring partner Stephanie Chan, who joins the firm’s China corporate and finance group.

The Hong Kong-based partner specialises in contentious regulatory matters, commercial litigation and international arbitration, as well as disputes ranging from financial services, mining, real estate, entertainment, energy, and manufacturing.

Chan has specific experience in handling regulatory investigations from the HKEX, the Securities and Futures Commission, the Hong Kong Monetary Authority and the Commercial Crime Bureau.

Prior to Sidley, Chan had been a partner at Reed Smith for three years, following her five years of practice at Ashurst and nearly three years at King & Wood Mallesons.

Constance Choy, the managing partner for the firm’s Asia-Pacific region and member of the management and executive committees, said that “given the market conditions, we are seeing increased activity in our regulatory and enforcement practice, and Stephanie will be instrumental in serving our clients that look to us to provide counsel in these very complex and sensitive matters”.
