A record 350 guests turned out at the Capella Hotel in Singapore for the Singapore Corporate Counsel Association’s (SCCA) 2018 Annual Black Tie event.
The Annual Black Tie featured a menu specially crafted by the hotel’s executive chef to coincide with the SCCA theme of diversity, paired with various wines, port and sake.
Entertainment for the evening consisted of Japanese Taiko Drums, a contemporary Indian dance group and a one-of-a-kind roast by the former chairman of the Singapore Institute of Directors, Willie Cheng, which had guests in fits of laughter.
For the first time since the founding of SCCA in 2002, three honorary memberships were awarded to deserving individuals who had made significant contributions to the in-house community. The award recipients were Justice Chua Lee Ming, assistant secretary-general of the National Trades Union Congress and member of parliament Patrick Tay, and Willie Cheng.
The SCCA also awarded on the night four Singapore Chief Legal Officer Awards to in-house counsel who have made great strides in their organizations.
The four categories and winners were: MNC in Singapore (awarded to Edmund Chan, ExxonMobil); Singapore Listco (awarded to Joyce Sia, United Overseas Bank); Private Company (awarded to Low Sai Choy, Far East Organisation); and Government Sector (awarded to Martin Marini, Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore).
