SCCA begins retooling process

The Singapore Corporate Counsel Association (SCCA) believes that if in-house counsel are better counsel, the organizations that employ them will be better corporate citizens.

Driven by this belief, the association began a painful but necessary retooling process in 2016. Third parties no longer run SCCA’s secretariat. A team led by a full-time executive director now supports the SCCA’s general committee in realizing the SCCA’s new vision to be a centre of excellence in Asia for the practice of law in-house.

Ultimately, the association aims to get more general counsel across Asia into the executive suites of their organizations so they are in a pivotal position to influence major corporate decisions.

However, the association recognizes that its members must in the first place be good lawyers, and so its mission now is to define, maintain and raise the professional standards of the practice of law in a business environment across Asia.

The SCCA believes this will lead to learning and development opportunities for its members, and hopes Asia’s in-house legal community will help SCCA embrace its policies.
