Saikrishna & Associates has opened an office in Mumbai to fulfil the firm’s “longstanding aim to establish a strong litigation and advisory presence” in the city as part of its ambitious national expansion plans, said managing partner Saikrishna Rajagopal. The new office adds to the firm’s existing presence in New Delhi and Noida.

Thomas George, former senior vice-president of litigation, regulatory and intellectual property (IP) at Viacom18 Media, will head the Mumbai office at Nariman Point. The Mumbai team comprises seven professionals and support staff, including associate partner Tanvi Sinha and associate Manas Gaur.

“We want the team to grow organically,” Ameet Datta, a partner at Saikrishna & Associates told India Business Law Journal. “The current team is focused on advisory and contentious matters in the IP and non-IP space. We are very bullish about the prospects of the Mumbai practice under Thomas and are confident that the team will grow.”

“I have known Sai and Ameet for some time now and this move is very organic for me,” said George. “I have worked with law firms for most of my career, but heading different portfolios in-house has given me a deeper understanding of clients’ commercial expectations.”

Datta said that Bengaluru would be the firm’s “next natural destination”, although he added that any further expansion would depend on a range of factors including, most importantly, finding the right people.
