Rodney Ryder, a former partner at FoxMandal Little, has launched a new intellectual property, telecommunications and media law practice.

But his firm, Preconcept, is not a new idea. Ryder originally launched it several years ago after leaving IP specialist Anand and Anand.

He put the project on hold in January 2007 when he was offered a partnership position with FoxMandal Little, one of India’s largest firms, heading the information technology and outsourcing practice.

Preconcept was re-launched at the end of July this year.

It specializes in IT dispute resolution, intellectual property, data privacy and information security laws. Clients include HSBC, Citibank, GE and Pitney Bowes.

The firm is based in Delhi and has additional offices in Chandigarh and Bangalore. It has 12 lawyers, three of whom are partners.

Preconcept is advising the Indian government on information technology legislation. It is also involved in preparing programmes for the judiciary at several academic institutions including the National Judicial Academy in Bhopal, the Institute of Judicial Training & Research in Lucknow, the Tamil Nadu Judicial Academy in Chennai and the Karnataka Judicial Academy in Bangalore.

The firm intends to launch a legal media portal called Law Wire in collaboration with CyberMedia, an Indian publishing company.
