Zhu was previously a counsel at Davis Polk & Wardwell. He strengthens the firm’s government and internal investigations, cross-border enforcement and commercial litigation offerings.

He has extensive experience advising on US economic sanctions, anti-money laundering, Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), securities and accounting fraud, and related governance and corporate compliance issues, with a particular focus on China, Japan and Southeast Asia.

Recent cases include leading a major Asian state-owned enterprise’s multi-year Office of Foreign Assets Control investigation into alleged sanctions violations, and advising major US-listed financial institutions under Department of Justice and Securities and Exchange Commission investigation concerning hiring practices and other bribery and internal controls issues in China and Japan.

Zhu also frequently counsels corporate and financial institutions clients through risk management issues associated with state secrecy, data privacy and cross-border data export control.

“Chen’s deep experience handling internal and US government investigations across China and APAC strongly aligns with the firm’s areas of strategic focus, and will greatly benefit our clients in Asia and across the globe,” said Timothy Blakely, MOFO’s Hong Kong managing partner.
