Kuala Lumpur-based Richard Wee Chambers has entered into an official collaboration agreement with Beijing-headquartered Grandall Law Firm, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Malaysia and China.
This is the sixth offshore office the mainland firm Grandall has set up, adding to branches in Hong Kong, Paris, Madrid, New York and Stockholm.
After forming ties, Richard Wee Chambers will retain its English name but change its Chinese name to Grandall Law (Malaysia) Firm.
Earlier this year, Grandall’s counsel Will Fung joined Richard Wee Chambers as a principal partner.
Fung is a specialist in M&A, as well as investment and financing. He was a former chairman of the Malaysian Chamber of Commerce and Industry in China from 2017 to 2022.
Currently, the Kuala Lumpur office has five partners, including managing partner Richard Wee. The firm offers consultations on cross-border transactions, covering areas such as technology, telecommunications, new energy, semiconductors, logistics and property management.
Several domestic law firms have opened overseas offices in recent months. Jingsh Law Firm has set up offices in Seoul, Tokyo and Zurich. Hengdu Law Offices expanded its presence in Seoul and Lahore in Pakistan. DeHeng Law Offices expanded to Tokyo. Han Kun Law Offices established an office in New York in December, while JunHe did the same in Seattle in January this year.
