JunHe recruits litigation and arbitration specialist Zhao Zhen to its Beijing team to increase its competitiveness in dispute resolution.

Zhao specialises in the field of litigation and arbitration, cross-border dispute resolution, as well as compliance and government regulations.

He had represented dispute cases that involved billions of dollars, including the misappropriation of RMB12.2 billion (USD1.7 billion) in funds belonging to the polymer products manufacturer KDX; insurance company Chubb’s RMB10.5 billion acquisition of a stake in its peer Huatai Insurance.

Zhao was honoured with the China Business Law Journal’s Deals of the Year 2021 award for his role in a ground-breaking case involving securities misinterpretation.

The case involved a retail investor accusing Zhao’s client, Guodian Yonglight Energy Chemical Group, for securities misinterpretation. That was the first time that the Supreme People’s Court accepted hearing such a case without any prior administrative penalty imposed on the defendant, and this followed a judicial interpretation of such a procedure that was promulgated in 2003.

Before joining JunHe, Zhao was a senior partner at Jincheng Tongda & Neal, and he had also worked for Zhong Lun Law Firm.

Zhao, formerly an intermediate people’s court judge in Beijing, possesses in-depth knowledge of the judging criteria for commercial cases.
