Clifford Chance has hired Jonathan Chu as a partner at its Hong Kong office and head of intellectual property for the Asia-Pacific, strengthening its IP capabilities in the region.
Before joining Clifford Chance, Chu had been a partner at CMS’s Hong Kong office since 2020 and headed its Beijing office since 2024. Prior to that, he spent three years as a partner at the Hong Kong office of Stephenson Harwood.
Chu has extensive experience across a broad range of IP matters, including prosecution and portfolio management, due diligence, licensing, technology transfer and commercialisation, as well as enforcement and disputes. He advises on IP aspects of complex corporate transactions, investments and commercial arrangements and has longstanding experience assisting regional clients with international expansion.
His clients span the Asia-Pacific region and operate in sectors including consumer products, technology, life sciences and healthcare, media and entertainment, gaming, automotive and mobility and clean energy. He also advises on matters at the intersection of IP and emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, robotics and digital assets.
Chu was named among China Business Law Journal’s A-List: Growth Drivers from 2024 to 2026.
