Appleby hires partner Hannah Yao to join the Shanghai office, becoming the second offshore law firm with a permanent lawyer based in mainland China after Harneys.
Yao has expertise in private equity, M&A and corporate matters, especially on cross-border investments in the TMT sector. Yao, who is qualified to practise in New York and China, previously worked with Fangda Partners in Beijing and King & Wood Mallesons in New York and Shanghai.
Her clients are mainly private equity funds and technology enterprises, such as Sequoia Capital, Bain Capital, Apple, Tesla, ByteDance, etc. She has acted for Bain Capital investing USD570 million in Chindata Group Holdings in the largest single financial investment in the internet data centre sector in China at the time.
