Field Fisher Waterhouse has advised Hamleys on a franchising deal that enabled the toy retailer to open its first store in Mumbai in April. The franchise is operated by Reliance Lifestyle Holdings, a subsidiary of Reliance Industries.
The store is located in the popular Phoenix Mills shopping centre. The retailer plans to open a further 19 stores in the next seven years.
These stores continue Hamleys’ programme of global growth. Field Fisher Waterhouse advised on the company’s first franchise agreement in 2006 that paved the way for expansion into the Middle East. More recently, the firm also advised on the franchise agreement to open stores in the Balkans. The retailer is also planning openings in Romania, Bulgaria, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia, Montenegro, Albania and Macedonia.
