Haiwen & Partners hires three partners Tom Chau, Wang Zhong and Isaac Chen from Herbert Smith Freehills to strengthen its Hong Kong capital markets practice.

Chau was the managing partner of Herbert Smith Freehills in its Beijing office. He specialises in capital markets, M&A, regulatory and compliance for listed companies and corporate restructuring. As a council member of the Hong Kong Chartered Governance Institute, he has helped provide training on compliance and regulatory matters to directors and senior managers of listed companies.

With 27 years of experience, Chau has represented Sinopec in its secondary offering of HKD24 billion (USD3.06 billion) and has advised the State Grid and China Huaneng Group on debt issuances. He was also the retainer legal counsel of several state-owned energy enterprises such as China Huaneng Group, Sinopec and Beijing Gas.

Wang and Chen have practiced for 21 years and 16 years, respectively, specialising in Hong Kong’s capital markets and cross-border M&A, and both of them have extensive experience in IPOs in the city.

Wang is a member of the New York State Bar Association. Chen is a solicitor in England and Wales, and also a New York State Bar Association member.
