China Guangdong Nuclear Power Corporation, a state-owned nuclear power company, recently acquired Meiya Power Company from Standard Chartered Private Equity and Noonday Asset Management. Meiya is an independent nuclear power producer with investments in 22 power projects currently in operation in China and South Korea.

Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer advised Guangdong Nuclear as to Hong Kong law while Grandall Legal Group did the same as to PRC law.

Freshfields Hong Kong corporate partner Chris Wong led his firm’s team with Asia managing partner Simon Marchant. The team included Beijing corporate associates Chris Chia and Ling Taotao, and Hong Kong corporate associate Xu Yin.

Milbank Tweed Hadley & McCloy were the international counsel to the sellers, while Jun He advised the sellers on PRC law.

It is understood that Meiya Power will become the platform for Guangdong Nuclear’s international expansion programme.
