Introduction

Zhou Zhengping (David Zhou), senior partner at the Changsha office of Kangda Law Firm, has been awarded as Leading Talents of Chinese Foreign-related Lawyers by the Ministry of Justice and the All China Lawyers Association, as well as 2021 Excellent Lawyer of Changsha by the Changsha Bar Association. He is also a member of the Yuhua District Committee of the CPPCC, and a listed arbitrator in many international arbitration institutions such as the Beihai Asia (Singapore) Arbitration Centre, Beihai Court of International Arbitration, the Tangshan Arbitration Commission and a mediator of the Shenzhen Qianhai International Commercial Mediation Centre and Hunan Mediation Centre of the CCPIT/CCOIC.

Zhou graduated with a masters degree from the Central South University and obtained an offer of LLM from the Law School of UC Berkeley, and has more than 10 years of practice experience. Having an educational background both in civil law and common law, Zhou is able to skilfully use professional knowledge to navigate comprehensive and complex legal issues. He has been deeply involved in the field of overseas investment and acquisition, foreign investment, international commercial arbitration, export control and economic sanctions compliance and foreign-related legal services. He has handled hundreds of civil or commercial litigation and international commercial arbitration cases, and averted billions’ worth of losses for his clients. Zhou’s litigation legal service relating to contract disputes between Changsha Zhonglian Hengtong and the PLA Academy of Military Science was recognised in Deals of the Year 2020 by China Business Law Journal. He also participated in many large cross-border M&A and investment projects, including USD 350 million acquisition of 100% shares in Canadian AVMAX Group, China Sinolight’s acquisition of 51% of shares in Italian PMT.

Zhou has served as legal counsel for many of the world’s top 500 enterprises, state-owned enterprises or multinational companies, such as Schaeffler, Bosch, LV, Zoomline, Sany, Valin Steel, Standard Chartered Bank, and CRRC, and has been highly praised by clients. He has also provided trade control and sanction compliance services to listed companies and large state-owned enterprises. He is skilled in using both Chinese and English as his working languages to provide legal services and assist clients in completing transactions.
