Introduction

Xia Zhihua is a partner of Tian Yuan Law Firm in Beijing. His practice and experience covers venture capital and private equity investments, mergers & acquisitions, and foreign direct investment in China. He has assisted plenty of startups and growth companies in receiving financings from funds, and has also worked for many local and international VC/PE funds on their investments in target companies. He is familiar with the industries of the internet, telecommunications, media and entertainment, as well as sports.

Xia is one of the pioneer lawyers who has been advising clients in the area of the internet since the 1990s. Widely known clients he has represented include: Joyo.com (acquired by Amazon.com); 265.com (acquired by Google); 21vianet.com (a Nasdaq-listed company); TechFaith Wireless (Nasdaq-listed); ganji.com (acquired by 58.com); Wandoujia (acquired by Alibaba); Yixia Tech (the owner of the APPs of Miaopai, Xiaokaxiu and Yizhibo); and huohua.cn (one of the most active online education platforms in China).

Apart from keeping his influence in the area of the internet, he is devoted to legal services related to the most modern high technologies such as AI, blockchain, automatic driving, new energy vehicles and semiconductors, and is retained by many top companies in these areas as their counsel.

Xia was admitted in the PRC in 1999. He joined Tian Yuan Law Firm as an associate in 2003, and became a partner in 2007. Prior to joining Tian Yuan, he worked with Harden & Wells, a local firm also based in Beijing, in the area of foreign direct investment in China.

Xia holds a Bachelor and a Master of Laws from Peking University. He has been recognised by The Legal 500, ALB, and Legalband as a leading lawyer in PE/VC investments.
