Introduction

Vivien Teu is the founding and managing partner of Vivien Teu & Co, and a corporate and commercial lawyer. Her practice experience has a broad focus in the areas of asset management and diverse forms of investment funds including: Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission authorisation of retail funds (including UCITS funds and domestic HK funds); mainland-Hong Kong mutual recognition of funds; China-themed funds; QFII China A-share funds; RMB fixed income funds; ETFs; China QDII matters and offshore investments in securities, funds and structured notes; advising on establishing investment management platforms or securities-related businesses; assisting China financial institutions with SFC licensing applications and providing regulatory advice; Hong Kong securities compliance advice; assisting clients of diverse backgrounds with establishing private investment funds including hedge funds, funds of funds, private equity funds, real estate (opportunistic and core) funds, institutional segregated account mandates and other investment arrangements; advising on fund distribution matters, custody structure, investment and trading matters.

In recent years, Teu has also accumulated extensive knowledge and experience on the fast evolving legal landscape and regulatory requirements related to ESG [environmental, social and governance] issues and green finance, and is increasingly advising or working with charities, private or corporate foundations, social enterprises and impact investors. She has extensive experience on trusts or investment arrangements of private clients, and on executive incentive or employee share schemes of investment funds or corporates.

Teu is admitted as a solicitor of Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, and of England and Wales. She has been named “Asialaw leading lawyer” and “Notable practitioner” for the investment funds practice area, and for corporate and mergers & acquisitions. She also led the firm in receiving the following outstanding industry recognitions:
