Introduction

Kenneth Kong has practised in leading law firms in China for more than 15 years, and has also served as general counsel of a large Chinese private multinational.

Kong has extensive expertise in complex cross-border mergers and acquisitions. He has represented many of the Fortune Global 500 companies, as well as overseas institutions, in a wide array of investments and transactions in China. Among his clients are P&G, 3M, Henkel, and King’s College London. In outbound investments and mergers and acquisitions, Kong has acted as lead counsel for many renowned Chinese companies including CATL, CR Environmental Protection, Shanghai Electric, SF Express, Yonghui Superstores and Autohome. He has also advised leading venture capital and private equity funds including CapitalToday, Ping An Capital and DCP Capital, in many of their investments.

Kong has particular experience advising investors in bio-pharmaceuticals, medical instruments, environmental protection and clean energy, new energy vehicles and parts, new retail, chain superstores, catering and community e-commerce sectors, as well as Sino-foreign co-operation in education. In outbound investment, Kong has successfully advised Chinese clients in their investments and acquisitions in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, France, Italy, Spain, Singapore, Japan, South Korea, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam and Pakistan.

In addition to transactions, Kong also has advised numerous foreign-invested enterprises and well-known Chinese companies in their global compliance practice including anti-bribery, anti-corruption and anti-fraud, cybersecurity and data protection, trade sanctions and export control. Combined with his previous working experience as general counsel, Kong has developed a deep understanding of clients’ concerns and needs in the field of global regulatory and compliance, which enables him to always provide practical business-oriented solutions.

Kong is admitted both as a lawyer in China and an attorney-at-law in New York. He speaks English and Mandarin.
