Skechers, a global leader in comfort technology, has been deeply committed to the Chinese market for more than a decade under its philosophy of “In China, for China.” Alongside the brand’s continued growth in the country, Skechers China’s legal department has evolved into a highly professional, commercially minded and innovative in-house legal team. The 10-member team is organised into four specialised functions: IP protection, contract management, compliance and corporate affairs, covering key legal and regulatory needs of the consumer goods, retail, e-commerce and sportswear industries.
In 2025, the team further transformed from a traditional risk-control function into a strategic value creator for the business. By deeply integrating into the company’s operations and decision-making processes, it delivered industry-leading results across IP protection, dispute resolution, compliance governance and commercial legal support, providing strong legal safeguards for the company’s sustainable growth in a highly competitive market environment.
In IP protection and enforcement, the team established a comprehensive, multi-dimensional protection system integrating online and offline enforcement, administrative, civil and criminal actions, as well as brand governance strategies. In 2025, it spearheaded multiple high-impact cases, which were repeatedly recognised as landmark cases of the year by both industry bodies and media outlets. Through co-ordinated patent administrative actions, criminal enforcement and platform governance measures, the team significantly improved market order while transforming IP protection from a traditional defensive function into a strategic tool for brand capitalisation.
In dispute resolution and contract management, the team adopted a commercially driven and results-oriented approach. Through proactive risk control, structured negotiations and precise litigation strategies, it effectively handled a wide range of commercial disputes and complex contractual matters. Over the past year, the team not only prevented potential losses amounting to tens of millions of renminbi but also achieved substantial financial recoveries and value preservation for the company, further advancing the legal department’s transformation from a cost centre into a value-generating function.
In compliance management, the team established a full-cycle governance framework covering labour and employment, data security, retail operations and marketing activities. Through routine inspections, targeted audits and tailored compliance training, it has continuously strengthened compliance awareness and execution capabilities across business units while significantly reducing regulatory risks and ensuring operational stability.
The team further enhanced business ethics and anti-corruption governance through strengthened whistleblowing mechanisms, internal audits and compliance reviews in high-risk business areas, achieving zero major commercial corruption incidents throughout the year.
Over the past 12 months, the team has consistently demonstrated exceptional professionalism, commercial awareness and execution capability, successfully positioning itself as a strategic business partner while delivering industry-leading results in brand protection, risk governance and value creation.
