Chae Jooyup, general counsel and vice president at South Korea’s biotechnology company SK Biopharmaceuticals, has moved to Yulchon to be a partner in its dispute resolution practice and lead its medtech and bio team in Seoul.
Chae had been an in-house lawyer for almost two decades since starting his career in 2004 as a legal counsel at LG Electronics, and was a senior legal director for North Asia at Johnson & Johnson Medtech before moving to SK. He also served as an executive vice president at the Korea In-house Counsel Association for more than six years.
He is currently a vice chair of the Ethics Committee of the Korea Medical Device Industry Association and is also an international arbitrator at the Korean Commercial Arbitration Board (KCAB) since 2021.
Having served as an in-house lawyer in Korea’s various healthcare and medical tech industries, Chae focuses on various transactional and dispute resolution matters involving medical devices, pharma and bio, conglomerates, and multinational companies.
