Two China joint operation firms linked with Allen & Overy and Linklaters have hired partners Vivian Cao and Ellen Zhang, respectively.

Cao, who is qualified to practice in China and New York state, joined Lang Yue Law Firm, the China joint operation partner of Allen & Overy.

Her main practice areas are anti-monopoly, regulatory compliance and litigation, and she is especially experienced at handling the concentration of undertakings and foreign investment review.

Lang Yue said hiring Cao is the firm’s commitment to the development of anti-monopoly business in co-operation with Allen & Overy’s global anti-monopoly team.

Cao joined Fangda Partners as a partner in 2017 and two years later joined Zhao Sheng Law Firm, Linklaters’ China joint operation partner.

After Cao left Zhao Sheng, the Beijing office of the firm welcomed Zhang, a partner in the dispute resolution business department.

Zhang, who is licensed to practice in both New York state and China, began her career at Kobre & Kim in New York and joined Fangda Partners in 2014.

Zhang is experienced in resolving commercial and financial disputes between Chinese and international companies, cross-border investigations and regulatory compliance matters. She represented ConocoPhillips in a series of lawsuits arising from the 2011 Bohai Bay oil spill incident.

She has also provided legal opinions to the Big Four accounting firms on the protection of state secrets and cross-border data transfers under PRC law.
