India-born UK lawyer Ajit Mishra has been honoured with the Freedom of the City of London Award at Guildhall for his remarkable contributions to the legal and public spheres.

Mishra is a corporate partner at British firm Knights, and the founder and chair of the UK India Legal Partnership (UKILP). He is a dual qualified lawyer, with more than two decades of experience leading M&A and commercial transactions between India and the UK. Mishra also serves as the chair of the India chapter for the Centre of Commercial Law Studies at Queen Mary College, University of London.

The UKILP is a platform that facilitates connections between legal communities in India and the UK, emphasising inclusivity, especially promoting the rights of women and young lawyers.

The prestigious award recognises Mishra’s role in uniting business stakeholders in the UK and Indian markets.

The award presented by the City of London Corporation, underscores his contributions to London and public life, aligning him with esteemed past recipients including former Indian prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru, former UK prime ministers Winston Churchill, Margaret Thatcher and South African president Nelson Mandela to name a few.

Chris Hayward, the City of London Corporation’s policy chairman, lauded Mishra and emphasised strengthening the relationship between the UK and India.

The chair of the Freedom Applications Committee, Rehana Ameer, spoke of Mishra’s role as a vital bridge between the nations and as an investment for a more interconnected relationship.
