Shihui Partners has recently launched a Hong Kong office in association with local firm HM Chan & Co, marking its fourth branch after Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen.

“This year marks the 10th anniversary of Shihui’s founding. The establishment of our Hong Kong office and this association mark an important milestone as we continue to strengthen our cross‑border legal service capabilities,” said George Niu, Shihui’s founding partner, said in a press release.

“We will actively support the national Belt and Road Initiative, and the strategic plan of developing the Guangdong‑Hong Kong‑Macao Greater Bay Area, while providing clients with robust legal support and professional assurance for their global business expansion.”

HM Chan & Co focuses on areas including cross-border transactions, capital markets and M&A. “We are delighted to formalise our longstanding relationship with Shihui Partners through this association,” said Mark Chan, the firm’s founder and managing partner, in a press release.

“What distinguishes this collaboration is its foundation in a deeply established professional and personal relationship, rather than a newly formed arrangement. We have developed a highly aligned and integrated approach to cross-border transactions over time and this association represents a natural evolution of that collaboration.

“By combining our respective strengths, we are well positioned to deliver seamless, commercially focused legal support across jurisdictions, creating meaningful added value for our clients.”

The past collaborations between the two firms include JD.com’s acquisition of Kai Bo Supermarket in Hong Kong. Shihui advised JD.com, while HM Chan & Co counselled JD.com on Hong Kong law. This transaction was recognised in Deals of the Year in 2025 by China Business Law Journal.

Established in 2015, HM Chan & Co entered into an association with Taylor Wessing in 2016, which later evolved into a merger in Hong Kong in 2021. The collaboration ended in November 2025, after which HM Chan & Co resumed independent operations.
