Global law firm Jones Day has strengthened its corporate practice in Tokyo with the appointment of Daigo Takahashi as of counsel.
Takahashi joins from Morrison Foerster, where he spent more than 11 years as an associate, working across the firm’s Tokyo and San Francisco offices. He was also a secondee at artificial intelligence (AI) research and deployment giant OpenAI for five months until May 2026.
He specialises in M&A, divestitures, carve-outs, strategic investments, joint ventures, and other corporate matters across a range of industries, including technology, AI, semiconductors, industrials, consumer products, and health care and life sciences.
Takahashi also focuses on Japan outbound and inbound transactions, advising Japan-headquartered multinationals, their US affiliates and the broader Japanese business community in the US.
“Daigo’s arrival reflects Jones Day’s continued commitment to Tokyo and to the firm’s strategy of having lawyers in key markets who are genuinely bilingual, cross-cultural and able to help clients navigate complex transactions across Japan and international markets,” Chris Ahern, Jones Day’s partner-in-charge in Japan, told Asia Business Law Journal.
Takahashi is admitted to practise in California, and his application to be a registered foreign lawyer (gaikokuho jimu bengoshi) in Japan is underway.
