Introduction

Martin Patrick Nagel is the managing partner and one of the founding partners of FKNK Law Firm. He received his law degree from Parahyangan University and master of law degree from Padjajaran University. Nagel is well known as a legal practitioner who always combines strategic and tactical knowledge in achieving structured and favourable solutions. He also implements a hands-on approach, regularly meeting and obtaining feedback from clients to ensure that the firm can consistently exceed client’s expectations. His standard of professionalism in providing legal services is recognised by his clients and colleagues, which is proven by his achievement in receiving the 2021 Rising Star Lawyer in Indonesia by Asian Legal Business and the 2019 Future Star for Commercial and Transaction by Benchmark Litigation Asia Pacific.

Nagel is an Indonesian qualified lawyer and administrator or receiver with extensive expertise and a profound understanding of the complex commercial dispute, construction, debt restructuring, and arbitration. Nagel plays a significant and outstanding record in restructuring through court or out-of-court during the past few years amid the covid-19 situation.

Nagel has been involved in debt restructuring cases reaching approximately a total amount of IDR270 trillion (USD18.6 billion) and acted as legal counsel and administrator in various projects. His involvement as administrator and legal counsel has evolved within the past few years, where he has worked in various cross-border restructurings. Some of his high-profile cases include the IDR26 trillion debt restructuring of well-known integrated textile companies in Southeast Asia, Sri Rejeki Isman, Sinar Pantja Djaja, Bitratex Industries and Primayudha Mandirijaya; the IDR11.1 trillion debt restructuring of Sentul City, a prominent developer company in Indonesia; the IDR197 trillion creditor’s claim in the debt restructuring of Garuda Indonesia, a state-owned flight carrier. In addition, Nagel also acted as legal counsel in advising bondholders on ad hoc committees for the restructuring of Waskita Beton Precast. He has vast experience in advising and representing companies in arbitration for corporate transaction disputes related to construction and insurance.
