Introduction

Peng Zhang specialises in all kinds of intellectual property disputes, antitrust and competition law disputes, trade compliance and remedies, focusing on information technology, telecommunications, media and entertainment-related practices. His specialty industries are communications and technology, and energy and natural resources. Zhang holds an engineering degree from Tsinghua University, and a Juris Doctor degree with postdoctoral research experience in intellectual property.

Since practising at Zhong Lun Law Firm, Zhang has handled more than 100 patent infringement litigation cases, patent invalidation disputes, technical secret litigation, trademark and copyright litigation, and technology-related antitrust litigation cases, including dozens of cases before the Supreme People’s Court. His long-term clients include multinational corporations and leading enterprises in Europe, the US and China, involving cutting-edge legal issues that have a broad social impact. He always puts forward innovative, practical and strategic solutions in case handling, and has been highly commended by clients repeatedly. Chambers and Partners praised his “extensive experience in handling patent issues with national and international technology companies”.

Zhang also specialises in cross-border technology transactions and is responsible for the technology and intellectual property negotiations of the world’s first new energy vehicle joint venture between Great Wall Motor and BMW Group, which was signed in the presence of the prime ministers of China and Germany. Zhang has extensive experience in corporate intellectual property strategy and corporate intellectual property management. He worked at Kirkland & Ellis’ San Francisco office where he conducted in-depth research on cross-border intellectual property litigation and cross-border intellectual property transactions. Zhang previously worked at the China National Intellectual Property Administration as an auditor for 13 years.

He is one of the first national experts in handling overseas intellectual property disputes. Zhang is a member of the Intellectual Property Committee of the China Society of Technical Economics, a director of the China Intellectual Property Research Society, a member of the Beijing Lawyers Association foreign-related lawyers talent pool, included in the Beijing Intellectual Property Experts Database, and among the first batch of overseas intellectual property rights protection assistance experts database in Shenzhen.
