Supreme Court rules on reopening of tax assessment

The Supreme Court recently ruled on the issue of whether it is justifiable to reopen a completed assessment by the Income Tax Department. The court held that there must be tangible material to reopen an assessment, which had already examined the facts and law earlier; not a mere change of opinion.
