Suhaan Mukerji

Introduction

Suhaan Mukerji is the managing partner of PLR Chambers, a law firm specialising in public policy and regulatory affairs pan-India. PLR Chambers was awarded the best Policy and Regulatory Law Firms of the Year by India Business Law Journal from 2014 to date, and received Legal Era Awards in 2017, 2016 and 2015. PLR Chambers was also Social Impact Firm of the Year in the Thomson Reuters Foundation Awards, 2018, and Suhaan was recognised as one of eight GenNext lawyers by The Economic Times.

The firm has a strong pan-India criminal and civil disputes practice, and has been one of the highest filers in the Supreme Court of India in the recent past. Suhaan has extensive experience in crisis management, policy formulation, drafting and monitoring of legislative agendas as well as regulatory compliance. He consistently advises clients on corporate affairs, market entry and public policy strategy in India, primarily involving information and communications technology, gaming, privacy and data protection, internet and e-commerce, public procurement, food agriculture and pharma law, medical devices, criminal defence, charities, education, nuclear and renewable energy, infrastructure, transport, fintech, international trade and investment law.

He regularly represents clients before the Supreme Court of India, CBI courts, various ministries and departments of the federal government, including the Department of Economic Affairs, road transport, highways, shipping, commerce and industries, fertilisers and chemicals, environment, defence, renewable energy, power, coal, mining, the MEITY and tourism. He has also represented various state governments including Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Orissa, Haryana, Telangana, Delhi, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Goa, Mizoram, as well as regulators such as the RBI, the SEBI, the DGCA, the SFIO, the FSSAI, the TRAI, and law enforcement agencies across the country.

Suhaan regularly advises the government at federal and state level on policy and legislative reform, serving on many government and industry committees, and appearing as an expert witness before parliamentary standing committees. Legislative drafting assignments include, amendments to the Information Technology Act, the Maritime Act, the Merchant Shipping Act, the Major Ports Bill, the Road Transport Safety Act and Rules, the Goa Tourism Bill, and the Sex Offender Registration Bill, 2022.
