Introduction

Paul Wang is a criminal litigator focusing on white-collar crime, securities and regulatory matters.

A native Mandarin and Cantonese speaker, Wang has law degrees from both civil law and common law jurisdictions, the first partner since Haldanes was established in 1975 to have both.

Wang is also the first solicitor at Haldanes to obtain a GBA lawyer’s licence, which qualifies him to advise on International in the nine cities of the Greater Bay Area.

His qualifications and experience give him an edge when helping PRC clients and dealing with PRC-related matters, particularly assisting listed companies with antitrust and commercial cases, or regulatory investigations.

Described by legal directories as “a great strategist and one of the top criminal solicitors in town”, Wang frequently represents clients in tackling investigations and prosecutions by various government or regulatory bodies, including the Securities and Futures Commission, the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong, the Commercial Crime Bureau, the Independent Commission Against Corruption, as well as the Hong Kong Police and the Department of Justice. He has also been appointed by the DoJ as a fiat prosecutor in prosecuting cases at the magistracy level.

Wang has also contributed to several major legal publications, including the ALB Legal Guide to the Greater Bay Area, 2023, published by Asian Legal Business, the Anti-Corruption 2021 Global Practice Guides (Hong Kong Chapter), published by Chambers and Partners, as well as the Business Crime and Investigation in Hong Kong: Overview, published by Thomson Reuters.

Wang was listed as a recommended lawyer in Who’s Who Legal 2023 for business crime defence – corporates, and for the category of Mainland China & Hong Kong SAR – business crime defence & investigation. He was ranked in the Doyles’ Guide 2023 as among the leading criminal lawyers in Hong Kong, and leading white-collar crime, corporate crime & regulatory lawyers in Hong Kong. He was also the exclusive winner of the Lexology Client Choice award 2022 for business crime in Hong Kong.
