Introduction

Nafisa Nihmat is an equity partner at the Zhong Lun Law Firm Shanghai Office. Nihmat has extensive experience and expertise in bankruptcy restructuring and liquidation, distressed M&A, and public relations for debt crises. She also serves as an arbitrator at the Shanghai Arbitration Commission, a member of the International Association of Restructuring, Insolvency and Bankruptcy Professionals (INSOL International), a director at the Bankruptcy Law Research Society of the Shanghai Law Society, a director at the Beijing Bankruptcy Law Society, a member of the Bankruptcy and Non-Performing Assets Committee of the Shanghai Lawyers Association, a member of the Publicity Committee of the Shanghai Bankruptcy Administrators Association, a lecturer at Qingdao Lawyer Institute, and an expert listed in the National Civil and Administrative Case Consulting Expert Database of the Supreme People’s Procuratorate of the People’s Republic of China.

Nihmat has handled a number of complex bankruptcy restructuring and distressed M&A cases which have had extensive influence at home and abroad, such as the consolidated bankruptcy restructuring of Shandong Tranlin Group and its 22 affiliates, of Harbin Gong Da High-Tech Enterprise Development and its four affiliates, of Fengli Group and its 28 affiliates, of Zhoushan Haozhou Group and its 11 affiliates, the bankruptcy restructuring of Hangzhou Yuhang Financial Holdings Group, Sun Edison, China Solar, etc. She carries out international exchanges and co-operates with bankruptcy law specialists in various jurisdictions on bankruptcy restructuring issues. As one of the first practitioners in the bankruptcy field who became familiar with Chinese bankruptcy legislation, Nihmat was first to introduce the concept of extending non-performing assets from non-performing bank loans to other diversified assets, providing clients with a whole range of one-stop legal services.
