DOCVIT Law Firm has deepened its IP and competitive law practice bench in Beijing with the addition of Liu Haiping, whose experience extends to litigation and non-litigation cases.
With an education background in law and engineering, Liu joined Han Kun Law Offices in 2017 and was part of its IP team. He specialises in handling patent litigation, such as disputes involving invalidation, infringement and standard essential patents.
Liu has represented clients from sectors such as semiconductors, financial technology, robotics and medical equipment as well as Apple, Samsung, OPPO and Bitmain.
His signature case was a dispute involving the patent of a face detection system. The Supreme People’s Court selected it as one of the top 10 IP cases in 2023 as it helped clarify a step in the patent confirmation procedure. It set out the requirements for amending patent claims including the extent, method and purpose of the amendment.
The same case was among the list of 100 most representative cases of the intellectual property court in the five years since its establishment, the Supreme People’s Court said.
