John Dong

Introduction

John Dong has extensive experience in labour law, commercial litigation, dispute resolution, corporate policy establishment, and specialises in assisting companies in international commercial disputes involving labour matters. Dong has provided many large-scale multinational and domestic companies with legal services including Chinese, English and Japanese legal consultancy, legal document reviews, collective bargaining and litigation. Dong and his team handle more than 100 labour disputes all over the country throughout the year, including many cutting-edge, classic and high-value cases.

Dong has long been committed to the practice and theoretical aspects of labour law, leading the team to develop online legal service products such as the HRLC Database Professional, the HRLC Calculator Plus and the HRLC Online Legal Document Library in conjunction with external institutions.

He has a bachelor’s degree in law from East China University of Political Science and Law, majoring in international economic law, and has a master’s degree in law from Vanderbilt Law School in the US. He is qualified to practise in New York and the PRC.

Dong has published various legal articles, some of which were embodied by core legal journals such as Heibei Law Science. Dong has also authored publications such as Case Analysis on Latest PRC Labour Contract Law (Chinese – English version), 2012 China Labour Law Yearbook (Chinese – English version) and HR Legal Counsel, which have been highly complimented.

He was honoured by Chambers and Partners in the field of employment in the Asia Pacific/China region several times from 2012 to 2022, recognised as an A-List lawyer by China Business Law Journal in 2022, and listed as a Tier 1 lawyer in labour and employment and in Asia-Pacific labour and employment by the Legal 500 in 2019 and 2018 respectively. Dong was awarded the titles of Lawyer of the Year at the China Law & Practice Awards, Legalband Top Lawyer in the field of labour and employment, and was among the CLECSS Top 10 Outstanding Young Lawyers, etc.
