James Jiang

Introduction

James Jiang is the managing partner of Topcom China Law Offices in Shanghai. He focuses his practice on government affairs and compliance, corporate matters and litigation. Jiang is licensed to practice law in the PRC and New York. He is an adjunct professor at the East China University of Political Science and Law, and an arbitrator at the Shanghai Arbitration Commission.

Jiang has extensive experience in representing many clients in a wide range of cross-border legal matters, including corporate investment and financing and intellectual property rights protection. In the areas of government affairs and compliance practice, Jiang has represented clients in high-profile regulatory compliance matters and government investigations, including proposing, negotiating and eventually resolving potential administrative and criminal liabilities. Jiang has been frequently invited to give lectures for government authorities, traditional and emerging media, and inspection and consulting companies on cutting-edge legal topics of regulatory compliance. He communicates closely with various regulatory authorities to advise clients on regulation and practical operations.

Jiang has led the team in handling influential compliance investigation cases nationwide, including China’s First Case of Illegally Providing Trade Secrets to Overseas Entities and The Top Ten Most Important Legal Cases of 2016 That Pushed Forward China’s Legal System. Jiang enjoys a good reputation in the legal profession and has been assessed and listed by authoritative organisations for many years.

Jiang received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in law from Shanghai International Studies University, the University of Amsterdam and New York University School of Law.

He is a member of the Commissioner of Healthcare Practice Committee of All China Lawyers Association, a deputy director of the Disciplinary Department of the Shanghai Bar Association, a legal counsel of the Shanghai Huangpu district government, a civil and administrative case consulting expert for China’s Supreme People’s Procuratorate, a member of the China Law Society, a lawyer representative to the 11th Shanghai Lawyers Congress, a deputy director of the Healthcare Practice Committee of the Shanghai Bar Association, a commissioner of the Shanghai Food and Drug Safety Research Institute, a commissioner of the Life Sciences Law Research Committee of the Shanghai Law Society, a commissioner of the Lawyer’s Working Committee of the Shanghai Huangpu District Judicial Bureau, and an expert for the Shanghai Overseas IP Protection Service Base.
