Iqbal Khan and Ambarish, formerly partners in the corporate, M&A and private equity practice at Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co (SAM), have moved to JSA along with their team of around 20 lawyers.

At JSA, Khan will become the national corporate lead, working with the executive committee along with the joint managing partners.

“I am very grateful to Shardul [Shroff, executive chairman] and Pallavi [Shroff, managing partner] for all the support while at SAM, and I am very excited to be joining JSA as national corporate lead,” said Khan.

JSA – for me – represents a firm with a meritocratic DNA where partners across the equity spectrum are heard and involved in the running of the firm, and where true collaboration and entrepreneurship is not only rewarded, but encouraged across the firm … my team and I are very excited to collaborate with others at JSA to build an even stronger firm for generations to come.”

In 2015, Khan was one of the initial equity partners to join SAM’s Mumbai office after the split of Amarchand Mangaldas. He had also worked with Paul Weiss and Kirkland and Ellis in the US. Khan’s expertise spans large complex private equity and M&A transactions for listed and unlisted companies and cross-border matters.

Ambarish was also an equity partner at SAM and worked at the firm for 16 years. He is best known for his experience in transactions involving listed companies and matters related to the Securities and Exchange Board of India. He also has a significant Japanese practice, having worked in the country.

Khan and Ambarish have led some of the largest M&A and private equity transactions in the country, representing both foreign and Indian major corporations.
