Introduction

Grace Guo Jie is a senior partner at Hiways Law Firm in Shanghai. She obtained a bachelor’s degree in law and a master’s degree in civil and commercial law at the East China University of Political Science and Law. With more than six years’ experience at the intellectual property division of a Shanghai court, Guo handled more than 700 cases encompassing a full range of intellectual property disputes, and won case awards in the national court system for trade secrets, trademarks, unfair competition and other cases.

Having practised as a lawyer for more than eight years, Guo has handled over 300 intellectual property issues. She has represented clients in complex and influential intellectual property litigation covering trademarks, unfair competition, trade secrets, software, etc. With her outstanding skills in civil and commercial dispute resolution, corporate clients rely on Guo for intellectual property issues including contract drafting and review, intellectual property transaction negotiation, infringement risk analysis and recommendations. Many high-tech enterprises, multi-brand enterprises and creative enterprises turn to her for comprehensive legal advice.

Guo was commended as a “brand star” lawyer for intellectual property by Legal Vison in 2023, and was selected into the Top 50 of China’s outstanding intellectual property lawyers by IP House and IP Lead in 2020. She received the grand award of the Second National Young Judges Outstanding Cases by the Supreme People’s Court for the Jill Biochemical Trade Secret Infringement Case.

Guo and Xu Genhua tried and authored the Parrot Trademark Infringement and Unfair Competition Dispute Case, which was listed in the 50 Typical Intellectual Property Cases in Chinese Courts in 2014. She won the second prize of the 2015 National Case Award of the People’s Justice magazine for the Determination of Soft Advertisements in Variety Shows Constitute Commercial Defamation, which was published in The People’s Court Case Selection by the Supreme Court.

Guo has worked as a researcher at the Intellectual Property Research Centre of East China University of Political Science and Law since 2022, as a part-time tutor for graduate law students at the Shanghai University of Political Science and Law, and has served as an expert at the Intellectual Property Expert Database of Shanghai Pudong New Area since 2023.
