Introduction

Gary Fu is a senior partner at the Shanghai office of Dacheng Law Offices (in progress). He has honed his law career over 20 years, mainly practising and researching intellectual property laws, corporation laws and M&A. Fu is skilled in providing integrated solutions for corporation IP issues, especially in the field of TMT.

Fu has served as legal adviser for dozens of well-known enterprises such as Tencent, Bilibili and XiaoHongshu, and has provided legal advisory services to companies such as Shanda Games and Sina. His professional and prudent attitude has been highly praised. Fu has built stable and in-depth co-operative relationships with clients.

He has represented more than 600 litigation cases and successfully hosted many important cases, including the first case of unfair competition in internet big data, Dianping.com v Baidu.com; the first case ruling a game as a cinematographic work, Miracle MU; and the series of Mir II cases. Among them, more than 20 cases were selected as the Top 10 Typical IP Cases at the provincial level. Five were selected as the Annual Typical IP Cases by the Supreme People’s Court, and two were selected for the bulletin of the Supreme People’s Court.

Fu has been listed by Thomson Reuters as one of ALB China’s top 15 litigation lawyers, top 15 lawyers of choice for Chinese clients of ALB, and ALB China’s top 15 IP lawyers more than once. He was included in Chambers’ Asia-Pacific legal guide ranking of lawyers in IP litigation; China Business Law Journal’s 100 outstanding lawyers in China (A-List); the top 15 IP all-rounders of the first choice of LegalBand customers; and among the 2023 top 100 IP experts in China.

He concurrently holds the positions of the deputy director of the IP Committee of the Shanghai Bar Association; the deputy director of the IP Committee of the Shanghai Creative Industry Association; the deputy director of the Game Law Professional Committee of the Beijing Culture and Entertainment Law Society; the director of the Internet Affairs Committee of the Pudong IP Association; the advisory expert on civil and administrative cases of the Supreme Procuratorate; and membership of the IP Committee of the National Bar Association.

Fu has participated in writing eight professional legal books and has published more than 60 theoretical articles in professional journals. Many have won awards.
