Dear Editor,

This is regarding a case I filed against McDonald’s for charging me in excess of the maximum retail price (MRP) for the home delivery of a bottle of coke. After year-long litigation, the honourable consumer court has found McDonald’s guilty of violating the MRP and consumer protection laws.

This judgment will also be binding on all other restaurants that offer the home delivery of MRP packaged products.

This means that McDonald’s, Pizza Hut, Domino’s, Nirula’s, Pizza Corner, Papa John’s, or any other restaurant, will not be able to charge customers in excess of the MRP on soft drinks and mineral water that are delivered to their homes.

I have been awarded the sum of Rs3,010 (US$70) in the case. I believe it will hurt McDonald’s and all other restaurants that have been overcharging consumers by at least US$1 million a year.

This judgment will affect the lives of millions of consumers in India. I sincerely hope it brings a smile to the faces of your readers.
