The Hong Kong Corporate Counsel Association (HKCCA) members attended a half-day conference entitled “Transform your legal department” on 18 July at Island Shangri-La.
The event was sponsored by Thomson Reuters and began with speeches from Michelle Wei, secretary of the HKCCA and vice president and general counsel at APAC, Flextronics, and from Jane Lewis, the host’s head of professional of ASEAN/North Asia.
Following that, Peter Davies from Legal Solutions, Thomson Reuters led a panel discussion on Digital Transformation in Action, with panelists including: Ben Hamilton, head of legal, Asia at ANZ; Stephanie Wong, senior legal counsel for technology, operations and services at HSBC; and Andrew Morentz, compliance officer at Thomson Reuters.
Following that were two keynote sessions, Transforming Documents and Navigating to an Optimised Workflow, both followed by roundtable discussions.
Meanwhile, Bird & Bird delivered a half-day conference to HKCCA members on 20 June in Hong Kong’s trendy Lan Kwai Fong district, addressing the hot topic of the impact of digital disruption on the legal landscape.
The conference included five sessions from seven experts covering:
- Employment in the gig economy;
- Initial coin offerings and fintech disruption to fundraising;
- Big data and analytics and issues of data ownership;
- Protection of digital IP assets and online anti-counterfeiting tools; and
- Evolution of the use of injunctions to meet challenges in the digital world.
The sessions were aimed at enhancing understanding of the transformative effect and legal implications of the adoption of technology on various aspects of business.
The half-day conference was completed with a networking lunch. The Law Society of Hong Kong awarded 3.5 CPD (continuing professional development) points for the conference.
