Yang Xueyu

Introduction

Yang Xueyu is a senior partner at Hui Zhong Law Firm. She devotes her practice to international commercial arbitration, investment treaty arbitration and cross-border litigation. She has expertise in handling complex contentious matters involving multiple jurisdictions.

Yang has advised both domestic and foreign clients in a broad range of sectors, such as real estate, construction, IT, biotechnology, high-tech and automobiles, in proceedings conducted at the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes, the International Court of Arbitration, the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC), the Singapore International Arbitration Centre, the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce, the London Court of International Arbitration, and the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission. She has represented investors in several investment treaty arbitration cases and is one of the very few Chinese lawyers who have extensive treaty arbitration and advocacy experience.

Yang is also a skilled litigator. She has appeared before different levels of domestic courts, including the Supreme People’s Court of China. She represented a global leading biotechnology company headquartered in Denmark on administrative law proceedings concerning the validity of an invention patent. The case was voted one of the top 10 cases of China’s Patent Reexamination Board in 2012 and one of the top 10 IP cases of the Supreme People’s Court in 2016.

Yang is licensed in China and New York state. She is an arbitrator for the HKIAC, the Beijing International Arbitration Court, and the Shenzhen Court of International Arbitration. She is also a special mediator for the Singapore International Mediation Centre.

Yang has been recognised by Chambers Global Guide and Greater China Region Guide. She has been praised as “an arbitration expert in every respect” who “understands everything – the facts, law, circumstances and culture” and has “extremely sound judgment and great advice” (Chambers and Partners).
