Introduction
Wang Chao focuses on complex and high-stakes civil and commercial dispute resolution and bankruptcy restructuring. He possesses extensive judicial experience and strong theoretical foundation. Prior to entering private practice, Wang served as deputy chief judge of the Civil Division II of a provincial high court and held the rank of senior judge (third class). In more than a decade on the bench, he participated in the adjudication of more than 1,000 civil and commercial cases and was repeatedly recognised as an “outstanding case handler”. One of his judgments was selected among the “Top 100 Excellent Judicial Decisions of Chinese Courts” by the Supreme People’s Court.
Wang serves as the deputy director of the Guangdong Lawyers Association’s civil retrial and complaint committee and the Guangdong Bankruptcy Administrators Association’s individual bankruptcy committee. He is also a member of the Guangzhou Bar Association’s committee on the intersection of criminal, civil and administrative law.
In the field of dispute resolution, Wang is known for his solid legal expertise, rigorous analytical reasoning, and profound insight into judicial thinking. He has extensive experience handling high-value and structurally complex civil and commercial disputes. To date, he has represented clients in more than 20 cases, each exceeding RMB100 million (USD14m) in value, achieving cumulative results exceeding RMB10 billion. Notable examples include securing a full reversal in a RMB1.6bn trust contract dispute on appeal; reducing client liability by approximately RMB1bn in a listed company guarantee dispute; obtaining a full retrial victory following a provincial procuratorate protest in a contract dispute, which was later recognised by the Guangzhou Lawyers Association with its “Annual Business Achievement Award”; and recovering property worth nearly RMB900m for a client in bankruptcy proceedings.
Wang has made significant contributions to legal research and institutional development. His academic papers have received wide recognition, including garnering first prize at the 11th China Bankruptcy Forum, and have been published in leading legal journals such as People’s Court Cases and Legal Forum (CSSCI Collection).
