Introduction

Angell Xi graduated from Wuhan University with a LLB and a BA at the same time. She was also a visiting scholar of the EU-China Legal and Judicial Cooperation Programme.

Xi has spent 22 years in the legal and compliance field, with practice areas covering general corporate and compliance, intellectual property and licensing, art law, private client and family office. Xi has rich experiences in restructuring, cross-border investment and dispute resolutions, as well as in industries such as culture, art, entertainment and sports, automobile and parts, luxury brands and fashion industry.

Prior to joining Jingtian & Gongcheng, Xi was general counsel, Asia Pacific, for GE Intelligent Platforms, Asia Pacific general counsel for Ashland Inc., Chief Compliance Counsel for Kering Asia Group and Counsel for Michelin China for over 12 years. Xi is known as solid both in business and leadership.

Based on her unique in-house experience and understanding of business, Xi positions her team as a solution provider to give clients with legal and compliance total solutions. She is not only good at solving various legal and compliance problems for clients in business operation and management, but is also proficient in assisting clients in identifying and managing compliance and legal risks, structuring business strategy, managing and operating clients’ intellectual properties, building up sophisticated business modules as well as solving critical and complicated disputes.

Clients that Xi and her team support include Fortune 500 enterprises, SOEs, SMEs, entrepreneurs, start-ups, non-profit organizations and individuals and family offices. Industries involved include but are not limited to museums and other non-profit education, research institutions in respect of cultural heritage, art and sport, commercial operators in culture, art, entertainment and sports fields, financial institutions, investment institutions, automobile and parts, food and beverage, luxury brands and fashion, wholesale, distribution and retail business, universities and colleges. Jurisdictions Xi and her team are involved in include China, the US, Europe, Asia, Africa and Oceania.

Xi is an appointed Postgraduate Tutor for KoGuan Law School, Shanghai Jiaotong University and Law School, and Wuhan University. Xi is the advisory committee member and “Think Tank” Lecturer for Licensing International, and the Officer for IBA Art, Cultural Institution and Heritage Law Committee since 2017.

Xi is the author of Art Law – China Chapter, published in London in 2018 and 2019 with different versions, and Trademark Law – China Chapter, which was published in the UK in November 2019.
