Zhang Yao

Introduction

Zhang Yao is one of the earliest professionals to engage in corporate bankruptcy reorganisation practices in China following the introduction of the bankruptcy reorganisation system in 2007; he possesses extensive theoretical knowledge and practice experience in the field. As a member or consultant to administrators, he has participated in restructuring cases for dozens of large enterprises and listed companies, including Baoshuo, in one of China’s earliest listed company reorganisation cases; Sunshiny Mining, which was China’s first reorganisation case employing share consolidation to adjust investor rights; Topoint Photovoltaic, the first Chinese reorganisation plan recognised by a US bankruptcy court; Xinjiang Chalkis, Xinjiang’s first listed company reorganisation case; and Junhua Group and its affiliates, which were involved in the largest and most complex debt reorganisation cases in Henan. Zhang has also served as a legal adviser for local governments, participating in debt restructuring and state-owned enterprise reform projects for key enterprises, including China Fortune Land Development, China’s first large listed real estate company implementing simultaneous onshore and offshore debt restructuring; and a comprehensive state-owned enterprise reform project for Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps’ 13th Division.

Zhang excels in leveraging professional theories and practical skills to accurately identify the demands and concerns of all parties involved in debt restructuring projects. Through plan design, the use of innovative tools, negotiation and communication, he achieves equitable arrangements that protect the rights and interests of all stakeholders. Many of the restructuring and reorganisation cases he has successfully handled have received high recognition and praise from local governments, courts and stakeholders.
