Max Sun

Introduction

Max Sun is the founding partner of Kaiwei Law Firm. Prior to founding Kaiwei, Sun had a long practice at Lifang Partners, where he formed and led the patent litigation team of Lifang. After that, Sun joined Zhonglun Law Firm as a partner in the Intellectual Property Department.

Sun possesses 20 years of professional litigation experience and is one of the earliest lawyers in the industry dedicated to patent litigation.

Sun obtained a master’s degree in law from Renmin University of China and has an educational background in engineering. He excels in handling complex and challenging technical cases, especially those involving communications, electronics, semiconductors, chemicals, pharmaceuticals and other fields. Sun accurately grasps the key technical and legal issues of his cases and formulates effective solutions, thus securing the most favourable outcomes for clients. Sun has handled multiple high-impact cases, including: the series of patent disputes between Samsung and BOE regarding display panels; the series of phone patent disputes between Samsung and Huawei (including communication standard-essential patents); the patent infringement case between Jixiang Tengda and Dunjun related to the “router”; the patent infringement case between Wushi Pharmaceutical and Aonuo Pharmaceutical related to “calcium gluconate oral solution”; the patent invalidation case between Seiko Epson and Zheng Yali related to “ink cartridges”’ the design patent invalidation case between Zhongwei Bus & Coach Group and Neoplan related to “coaches”; the design patent invalidation case between Midea and Gree related to “fan blades” patent; the unfair-competition case between Qihoo 360 and Tencent related to “QQ Bodyguard”; and the copyright and trade-secret-infringement case between American Superconductor and Sinovel Wind Power Software.
