Introduction

Fisher Ma holds an LLM in criminal law from East China University of Political Science and Law, and is a partner at Dentons’ Shanghai Office. He is the director of the Criminal Law Committee and the deputy director of the Publicity Committee under the Shanghai Bar Association, and a member of the Shanghai Case Law Committee. He also serves as a part-time lecturer and a master tutor at East China University of Political Science and Law, Peking University, China University of Political Science and Law and other universities.

Before joining Dentons in 2013, Ma had worked in Shanghai Zhai Jian Law Firm, the first law firm specialized in providing only criminal law services in Shanghai. He has focused on criminal defence and criminal compliance since he began his career as a lawyer, and has handled nearly 300 criminal cases across a wide range of matters, some of which have had significant influence in Shanghai, and in mainland China. He has accumulated extensive experience, especially in the areas of financial crime, duty-related crime and intellectual property crime.

Ma is able to offer insightful and professional legal opinions and solutions for his clients concerning criminal risk identification and prevention in their operations and management, based on his abundant experience in criminal lawsuits. He has assisted many domestic and foreign clients in handling legal matters in the fields of anti-fraud, anti-commercial bribery and anti-money laundering, and his efforts have helped his clients effectively reduce or prevent criminal risks.

He has also won high praise from clients for his capabilities in offering interdisciplinary services and cross-industry dispute resolution perspectives in handling criminal-civil and criminal-administrative cases in the commercial area.

Renowned for his strong capabilities and professional ethics, Ma was named the “7th Top 10 Distinguished Young Lawyer in Pudong New Area” and nominated for the “6th Outstanding Young Lawyers in Shanghai”.
