Introduction

Jerry Xia is a partner-level senior consultant at AnJie Law Firm and former Deputy General Counsel & Chief Intellectual Property (IP) Counsel of Honeywell for the Asia Pacific region. He has been based in Shanghai since 2007.

Mr. Xia has a wealth of IP experience in China and Asia both as in-house counsel and as private practitioner for over 17 years, encompassing IP filing and portfolio management, IP risk clearance and compliance, IP licensing, litigation, enforcement and other aspects of IP law practice. Before joining AnJie Law Firm in 2019, he led Honeywell’s IP function in APAC for 11 years with plenty of successes achieved. In particular, he handled numerous award-winning IP lawsuits including a history-making preliminary injunction against a patent infringer and a landmark trademark victory before the Chinese Supreme Court. Prior to Honeywell, Mr. Xia worked in the Hong Kong and Shanghai offices of the international law firm of Baker & McKenzie practicing Chinese IP law. Earlier, he was a legal manager for Datang Mobile, a leading Chinese telecoms equipment supplier based in Beijing and also worked for the Sino-Europe Technology Transfer Centre in the Netherlands.

Mr. Xia is widely recognized in the IP community. He was listed by the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) as an “IP Expert” in the industry and information technology field. For years he has been selected on the “IAM 300” – the World’s Leading IP Strategists, the MIP “Corporate IP Stars” and the Legal 500 “Corporate Counsel 100 in Asia Pacific” and “GC Powerlist – China”. Other industrial awards he has received include e.g. the “Global In-house Counsel of the Year” from the World Trademark Review (WTR), “In-house Counsel of Distinction” from Asia Lawyers, the “Asia Pacific IP Individual of the Year” from the International Law Office (ILO) and the Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC). In addition, his team was awarded “IP Department of the Year” for several times.

Mr. Xia holds law degrees from the University of California at Berkeley in the US, Erasmus University Rotterdam in the Netherlands and Peking University in China. In addition, he has an engineering degree in industrial automation from Beijing University of Chemical Technology.
