The Chongqing-headquartered Baijus Law Firm has broken into the Beijing market, initiating its major city push as part of plans to establish a national footprint with the acquisition of a local peer, RisingIP Law Firm.

RisingIP founding partner Liu Kangkang will lead the newly established Baijus branch comprising a team of 20. Baijus plans to expand the Beijing workforce to 50 to 80 employees in the near future. Its primary focus areas include intellectual property, criminal law, and legal services in civil and commercial matters, with an emphasis on the internet, media, film and entertainment sectors.

Since establishing the Kunming office in December 2023, Baijus has extended its presence across the southwest region. The firm has expressed its ambition to transition from a regional entity to a national powerhouse, intending to establish branches in major cities across China in the next three to five years.

The firm has also announced the imminent opening of its Shanghai office, scheduled for this month.

Baijus has company as other firms have also accelerated their nationwide presence. For example, SGLA Law Firm has recently commenced preparations for its Beijing and Shenzhen offices, while Wintell & Co completed a merger last year and subsequently opened offices in Beijing and Shenzhen, with the latter branch recently expanding its workforce.
