Angela Chen

Introduction

Angela Chen specialises and has extensive experience in domestic and overseas listings, refinancing of public companies, bond issuance, M&A, mixed-ownership restructure of state-owned enterprises, shareholding structure design and equity incentives, establishment and investment of private and venture equity funds, debt restructuring, etc. She has represented many large enterprises and innovative startups in a variety of influential cases in these areas.

With solid professional capability and keen business insights, Chen is dedicated to providing clients with comprehensive solutions integrating legal and commercial approaches. Her clients, covering dozens of well-known public and private companies, are spread across a wide range of industry sectors such as renewable energy, technology, biomedicine, consumer goods, transportation, logistics, real estate, property management, finance, chemicals and manufacturing.

Chen’s representative refinance project, the series issuance of A shares and H shares (including convertible bonds) by China Southern Airlines, was awarded “Equity Market Deal of the Year 2023: South China & Central China” by Asian Legal Business. Chen has also been recognised as among “The A-List 2023-24 elite lawyers in China” by China Business Law Journal.

Chen’s book, Observations of Hot Topics in Law in Capital Markets, was published by Law Press in September 2023, and has been included in the law library of the National Library of China.

Chen joined King & Wood Mallesons in 2015. Prior to that, she worked as a senior in-house counsel for Huawei Technologies and Mission Hills Group.

Chen serves several concurrent positions in well-known institutions and administrative bodies such as the Zero2IPO Investment College, the Financial Bureau of Wuhan Donghu High-Tech Zone, China-European Science and Technology Innovation Centre, Shanghai United Assets and Equity Exchange, etc.

Chen graduated from Wuhan University and Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and obtained a bachelor’s degree in law and arts (English) and a master’s degree in economic law.

Chen is fluent in Mandarin and English.
