Mukesh Butani

Introduction

Mukesh Butani is the founder and managing partner of BMR Legal Advocates, a firm specialising in corporate international tax, transfer pricing and indirect tax, with expertise in litigation services, controversy management, strategic transaction advisory and tax policy. With specialisation in domestic corporate international tax and transfer pricing, Mukesh has more than three decades of experience in advising multinationals and Indian conglomerates on a wide range of matters relating to foreign direct investment policy, business reorganisations, cross-border tax structuring, tax controversy and regulatory policy.

He is an expert in the area of international tax policy, controversy and advocacy. He has assisted several senior counsels and has several landmark judicial pronouncements and depositions before expert committees. He has been deposed as an expert witness on contentious cross-border tax treaties and transfer pricing matters in foreign jurisdictions. His most recent authorships include Transfer Pricing–The Indian Landscape, Two Decades On (2021), Taxpayer Rights – Deciphering the Indian Charter (2021) and co-editing General Anti-Avoidance Rules: The Final Tax Frontier (2021).
