Introduction
Jyoti Sagar has been practising law since 1976 and founded JSA in New Delhi in 1991 as a solo practitioner. Jyoti also founded K&S Partners, an intellectual property boutique firm in 1994. K&S now has more than 150 professionals and is a leading IP practice.
He pioneered new paradigms in Indian law firm organisation and management structures. Both JSA and K&S have features unique to Indian law firms – a “no family” rule; admittance to partnership without a goodwill buy-in; retirement age for partners; innovative partner compensation mechanisms; and shared vision, mission and core values.
Jyoti is associate president of the Society of Indian Law Firms; executive committee member of the Bar Association of India; co-chair of the IP committee of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry; and past president of the Asian Patent Attorneys Association (Indian Group). He serves on the advisory committee and as chair of the finance committee of the Asian Patent Attorneys Association.
He is trustee – Genesis Foundation (which provides critical medical assistance to underprivileged children suffering from congenital heart defects); and trustee of the Laj Jagdish Foundation (the sponsor of Sambhav – a centre for differently abled children from slums in South Delhi). He supports Deepalaya (engaged in the education of slum children in the National Capital Region). He also serves on the board of governors at the Scindia School, Gwalior.
