Gopika Pant

Introduction

Gopika Pant has more than 38 years’ experience and is dual qualified in India and New York. She completed her BA (Hons) History from St Stephens College, LLB from Campus Law Centre, Delhi University (1985) and an LLM from Columbia University New York (1986); she is admitted to the Bar Council of Delhi in 1985 and to the New York State Bar Association in 1987. Gopika worked in New York during 1986-90, then returned to India and was named a partner in a leading law firm, before setting up Indian Law Partners in 1999.

She has significant experience in Indian corporate and commercial laws and is a specialist in cross-border commercial transactions, inbound and outbound, including restructurings, acquisitions, JVs, business alliances, PE investments and exits, insolvency and bankruptcy, banking and finance, infrastructure and project finance and real property transactions.

Gopika’s experience includes advising Times Bank in India’s first private banking merger with HDFC Bank and Japan Bank for International Co-operation in various equity and debt transactions, including in the Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor, Takshasila Hospitals and TechnoTrends Auto Parks. She has also advised various clients such as the ADNOC, Kuwait Petroleum, BlueScope Steel, Toshiba, Mitsui, Nippon Paper, Hyundai, Dow Jones, KIA Motors, Merlin Entertainments, Savills, the STOA, McLaren, JPM, S&P Global, Chiyoda Corporation, Green Gravity, Konoike Transport, McKinsey, Rashtriya Raksha University, Victaulic, Fujitsu General, Microsoft, Brookfield, Trivest Partners, Diligent Corporation, Navitas, NCR (Cardtronics) and Major League Baseball on diverse matters.

She is currently an independent director at Colgate Palmolive India and ABB India. Gopika has received various awards and recognitions from and has featured in several Indian and foreign media/publications such as Forbes India, India Business Law Journal, Who’s Who Legal. Gopika is a keen environmentalist and has completed a Diploma in Environmental Law with the World Wide Fund for Nature. She has addressed various conferences in India, London, Singapore, Japan, Australia and the US. She has also authored articles in various Indian and international publications.

Gopika is a keen sportswoman having been ranked number one in badminton and number three in squash nationally and has played several national level championships in India and the Lawyers League Championships in New York.
