Former Deloitte professionals Abhishek Ranjan, Akash Mittal and Sadhvi Gupta have launched Fair & Square Legal (F&S Legal), a specialist law firm focused on tax, regulatory and commercial matters.
Headquartered in Noida, the firm will also operate in Delhi and Mumbai. Before establishing the firm, Ranjan was a director at Deloitte, while Mittal and Gupta were associate directors. Together, they led complex indirect tax mandates and high-stakes litigation matters, including cross-border assignments across South Asia.
F&S Legal has been established with a dedicated focus on both indirect and direct taxes, corporate and commercial law, and allied regulatory matters. Its indirect tax practice covers GST, VAT, customs, central and state excise duties, and service tax, handling both legacy disputes and contemporary GST controversies. The firm also offers integrated direct tax advisory and litigation support, ensuring that clients’ tax positions are assessed holistically rather than in isolation.
The firm will represent clients from the earliest stages of proceedings before the GST Appellate Tribunal, which is now operational.
Beyond tax, F&S Legal advises on corporate structuring, commercial contracts, arbitration and a broad range of regulatory matters, including special economic zone (SEZ) frameworks, insurance laws, Food Safety and Standards Authority of India regulations and legal metrology requirements.
Ranjan, Mirral and Gupta have represented clients before tax authorities, appellate forums, tribunals, and the high courts and Supreme Court of India, while also advising on tax-efficient structures in an evolving regulatory environment.
Before joining Deloitte around three years ago, all three of F&S Legal’s founders practised at Lakshmikumaran & Sridharan where Ranjan was an associate partner, while Mittal and Gupta served as principal associates.
Ranjan brings nearly 15 years of experience, spanning the alcoholic beverages, tobacco and manufacturing industries. Mittal and Gupta contribute extensive advisory and litigation expertise across a diverse range of industries.
Mittal focuses on mining, FMCG and real estate, while Gupta advises clients in the insurance, global capability centre, education and technology sectors, creating a complementary and well-rounded leadership team.
In a joint statement, the founders said, “The decision to establish F&S Legal reflects our shared vision of creating a partner-led practice that combines technical excellence with commercially focused advice.
“We also intend to work closely with startups and early stage businesses, providing end-to-end legal and tax support as they scale. We look forward to continuing our relationships with existing clients and building new ones as we begin this journey.”
